Having lived in Ridgecrest for over 40 years, we
think it is the right place for you to begin your California high
desert adventure/vacation. As your hosts, we are happy to
share our information with you about our town and its surrounding
area. You will find that:
- Ridgecrest is a full-service community with two
world-famous museums; art, wildflower, and gem & mineral
shows; theater and orchestra groups; international AKC-sponsored
dog shows; a renowned community college; mountain bike
competitions; fairs; rodeos, motocross races...and more.
- We are close to many beautiful, natural, and
historical desert and mountain attractions.
- Surrounding us are abundant and fascinating
geological formations, ancient Indian cultural sites, unspoiled
canyon trails, brilliant clear blue skies, spectacular sunrises
and sunsets, starlit nights, early and modern-day mining
operations, extensive movie sites created by nature, and endless
photographic and artistic opportunities.
- The towering eastern Sierra Nevada mountains are
only minutes away; nearby Death Valley and other major national
and state public parks are a pleasant two hours' drive, or
less; and perhaps the world's greatest accumulation of
petroglyphs, or ancient rock art, can be visited through special
tour arrangements with our Maturango Museum, (760)
375-6900.
